This is the best little campground we have found. It is nestled in the foothills of the Rockies on a beautiful little creek. The spaces are few, but spacious and very well maintained. The campsite and bathhouse are festooned with local art and paintings. A charming and restful respite from travel or a great base for many activities in the area.
Nice and quiet campground. Even though it is close to the highway, you hardly notice with the sound of the stream. The RV spots are large, clean, and pull through. The tent sites are beautiful, tucked right next to the stream. I thought the gentleman that ran the place was very nice and we will go back!
We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the tent site number 9 and loved it. We could walk right up to the river and could hear it, which was awesome when sleeping. The sites do not have water or electricity, but we were able to get everything we needed on site. We stayed at 3 different campsites on our trip through Colorado and this one had the best prices and was our favorite. If you wanting all the extras this might not be the one for you, but if you want to be in nature this is a great option.
We stayed over a week, and we loved this place. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the site is quiet and gorgeous, and we felt like the location was the perfect balance between beautiful nature and proximity to civilization when needed. Only complaint, which isn’t the park’s fault at all, was having zero signal on either AT&T or Verizon networks. If you’re looking to escape on vacation, then this is just another plus, but if you work from the road like I do them it can be a challenge. Still, it was a challenge that I felt was worth it!
This is an excellent campground. My son and I visited in October to do some kayak fishing. It is in a great setting it has all the basics covered. No question we will be back. Wi-Fi speed and performance is slow but something we use very little if so not an important factor
We had a really nice time here, the campsites are very pretty, spacious, and well maintained and the owners are helpful and accommodating. We were lucky to get to stay a couple nights in their cute little cabins too and they were very clean and had everything we needed. There were plenty of trails leading off the camp too so you don’t even have to drive anywhere.
The people who work/own this place are incredibly kind and helpful. We had a situation that was out of our control and they showed compassion and offered help. I can’t say enough good things at this point. OH And absolutely beautiful as well. I highly recommend!
We just returned from a 3 day stay at the Monarch Spur and what a treat! It was lovely. Lots of trees just far enough into the tree line that you’re no longer on the boiling hot planes. Great rustic decor, clean comfortable bathrooms, fresh creek flowing though and close to a lot of great hikes. Highly recommend going up to boss lake and then doing the wildflower hike too. Enjoy the hummingbirds at the park as well! Only suggestion is that they start selling pancake mix ;).
Camp area was clean, quiet and spacious. Water and Electric in right spots, we did move our picnic table to suit us. RR/ Shower house were very clean and warm, water was nice and hot. They had a a laundromat room with a sink to wash dishes. Camp ground is next to smaller Arkansas river, there are several areas to fish. A beaver dam was being built next to the lower playground. Chipmunks and Stellar Jays visited us in the evening. Arrived mid Oct, camp was still open, water still running and less than half camp was occupied.
Overall a great experience. The campground was a great spot to be at right before going over monarch pass. It was very easy to find and is right off the highway. We got in late around 11:30pm and found our campsite with ease as the hosts do put reservation info by the front door for you if you do arrive after dark. Our site fit our 30ft TT and our SUV with about 2 feet to spare on the front end and back. I think they have about 40 sites, I would double check for sure, but when we were there, I believe there were about 10 open sites still left. The water has good pressure and the electric is 20/30/50 amp hook ups. Dog friendly and they have washers/dryers for coin use on site. We only stayed one night, and the morning of it was a little tricky to turn out because there was a maintenance truck parked in front of our turnout, but we did go the opposite way and there was space to turn around in the back area. I would gladly stay at this campground again, I believe the price for full hook-ups was $41 a night.
The park is clean with spacious sites and in a scenic location. The showers are hot and well maintained, management is friendly, and you can find walking/hiking if you explore. Early morning brings the roar of the river and brilliant skies. Yes you can hear highway noise but it isn’t bad and ends in the evening.
A wonderful place to spend one night to 4 months. The plus points are the mountains surrounding the camp ground, river running through it, wonderful trout stalked pond, hiking trails, close to all kinds of 4 wheeling trails and great site seeing. The staff are helpful. Friday night entertainment was a fun activity.
